From the moment she learned to read, Mirella began to devour medieval and historical fiction. The spark to write came to life when she stumbled upon the rich stories of her Italian heritage.  Still, it was only a spark.  After all, her life is far too busy to tackle such a massive task like writing a novel.  Then one day, while lunching with two writer friends, Mirella succumbed to their encouragement and took the plunge into the writing world.  The very next day she purchased a laptop and has never looked back.  Her first short story, The Holy Lance, was one of the winning entries in the first Annual Hidden Talents Contest of Alberta by Tall Tales Press and was published in the anthology "Tall Tales and Short Stories".   Her next short story, Down Three Steps, was published in the anthology Mamma Mia:  Good Italian Girls Talk Back byECW Press. Here, 18 Italian Canadian women recounted their experiences growing up as first generation Italian Canadians.  In 2004, she completed her first novel, Heinrich The Fowler: Father of the Ottonian Empire. The book was released January 2005 and can be purchased on Amazon.com, Barnes and Noble.com, or from her website – www.mirellapatzer.com. .

She has recently completed a medieval romance entitled Bloodstone Castle. Her newest projects are The Orphan and the Olive Tree and A Crimson Mantle. Mirella believes that working on two novels simultaneously keeps her challenged.
