Dedicated To The Fall

It is the fall and no other season that I wait in anticipation as I clearly stated through the thoughts of my main character in the first book I took to writing entitled “New York’s Opera Society”. It is in this book that I created Bill Albert, a fictional character who carries with him my love for the third season of the year known in America as the fall while those on the British Isles will call it autumn. So much of what I sense do I emit in to Bill as he; like myself spends the whole year awaiting for the fall and what it alone can provide; such as a cooling of the air after the long hot summer and the festivities that are so exclusive to this time of year as to make those that will or have come seem merely preludes.

In a way every season is special as each one brings something to those who await their annual arrival, the spring coming with its rebirth of nature, the summer with its intense sensations, while the winter with its cold that blankets all in snow and in this I add that it is merely a question of what one seeks as opposed to any one particular quality being better or inferior to any. I for my own seek that which fall posses; it being that contrasting strength from what summer offers, perhaps it is this change of season that makes it so unique as to my reckoning there is no change of season that brings about such a marked entrance that goes to such an extreme to bring back to life those senses so fatigued by summer’s rage.

Fall however to my mind goes beyond being just a relief from the season that was as it also includes picturesque scenes to equal in beauty and grandeur that of any other season with leaves that fall from trees after having changed in to a variety of pastel colors that range from yellow, red, brown and orange. Shades there are to be detected rivaling that of any applied by impressionistic painters such as Van Gogh or Monet as it is they that to my calculation must have given inspiration to their masterpieces. Of course in this the fall scenery is not limited to trees but goes in to landscapes that make use of the same splendor weather it be in country or city as is the case with my book “New York’s Opera Society”.

Fall one must not forget; also brings about a feeling of freedom from summer’s heat and radiated energy to those who are on their way back to their studies and the schools that will engage most of their time till summer’s arrival. This is also applying for those whose paths return them to work and their occupations and it is in my mind if nowhere else that I conclude that it is this same spirit that brings those back who engage both in sports and arts. When referring to sports I mean football and these year’s games that hopefully will see Italy qualify to the next World Cup so that she might defend her title obtained in the 2006 World Cup played in Germany.

As for art, it is the opera and its goers weather they be performers or spectators who also reappear on stage after having been forced off it by summer’s break ; for it is the energy gathered by the arrival of fall that provides them with the passion that opera requires of all those who surround it, in what every capacity. Perhaps there is something about the summer that in all truth does not lend itself to opera but fall is ideal as it reopens huge halls to those who be lovers of opera so they might get back in to the lifestyle that be opera with its men in tuxedos and ladies in long dresses that perhaps have little use outside such a setting.

So much does the fall have to offer that it even includes Halloween and Thanksgiving on its menu of offerings for those who are willing to spend this season with all its joys that allow us to share the spirit of humanity in harmony with those nearest to us, may they be family or not. As for myself; I could not envision this third season of the year without preparing a Halloween party for my daughter and her friends to partake in after they have been around the neighborhood in their costumes “trick or treating”; in a habit that though old in my country of birth is still in its early stages in Poland.

Thanksgiving with all it offers adds to this season; always less then a month after Halloween, helping to create a family atmosphere that could not have been better planed by anybody as far as my opinion goes when it comes to bringing families together as a sort of warm up for the Christmas and New Year’s eve to follow. It was this American holiday that even inspired me to write an article about it entitled “Thanksgiving, Why Turkey?”.

I have many reasons for highly praising the fall but one of them apart from those already mentioned is the fact that the fall due to its not being either overly cold or hot allows one to show off one’s nicest attire without getting sweaty or having to cover it with a winter coat. It is this feature that makes this time of year such an ideal one to go out shopping for all those clothes one will be in need of for the events that make the fall so unique and full of life that in all truth it must be considered as one of nature’s greatest gifts.
