Writer Networking Tools - Twitter

Twitter is an increasingly popular writer's tool for networking. Not only can you interact with clients but you can interact with potential clients and other writers as well.  In only 140 characters, you are able to provide updates to those following you as well as the public timeline of twitter users about what you are doing.

I didn't get Twitter for the first few months I joined. Then, I started actually following people which showed me what the fuss was about.

This one line can help you bring new traffic to your blogs and articles, bring new subscribers and attract new clients.  Last week I asked a question about Forex trading on Twitter and several new followers added me to their list who know about Forex. I later posted an update about getting out a baseball bat to help with collections from non-paying clients ( I was joking) but a baseball fan added me.  This showed me that people are paying attention to the public timeline and as a result, I'm now writing regular updates about what I'm working on.

This morning I wrote that I was writing about popcorn and cotton candy and about internet marketing. Someone reading the update or the public timeline could need a writer and see that I'm a subject matter expert.  The twitter feed can be posted on your website as well to help your readers learn a bit more about you.

Last week I saw a spirited conversation between several writers figuring out what to do about a scam artist. I also have seen people help one another resolve technical problems and even inspire others on what to have for dinner.

While it is a bit of distraction that needs some discipline enforcement on your part, Twitter can be a great networking tool. Check it out. I'm at twitter.com/danaprince if you'd like to follow me.
