Introduction to Unsung Patriot

I never knew him. . .

To my grandmother, he was a kind, loving man who had a few eccentricities. To my mother, he was an autocratic tyrant who, even after death, ruled her life.

My grandmother kept his photograph on the wall in her bedroom. We had a photograph too. It hung on the wall of the attic stairwell.

My grandmother called him "Guy". My mother called him "The Colonel". I called him "Guydaddy".

Who was my grandfather?
