The "N" sound can also be made by using two other phonograms. A phonogram is a letter or group of letters that are grouped together that make one sound instead of the sounds of the individual letters.

KN Makes the "N" Sound

The letters KN are a phonogram that makes the "N" sound. The K in KN is silent. Words with KN are found only at the beginning of a word. In other words, the phonogram KN will never be found at the end of a word.

wrong: sikn, resikn
right: knight, know, knack, knife
