We have covered the ai, ay, eigh, ei
phonograms. In this lesson we will cover the last of the two
"A" phonograms that make more than one sound.
ea Phonogram
Phonograms are letters that stand for a single speech
sound. Phonograms stick together. They work with each other to
make one sound. The letters ea are a phonogram. They make the
"A" sound.
The ea phonogram is special. When it talks it can make three
sounds. It does not make all three sounds at one time.
This ea phonogram is shy. It only makes the "A" sound
sometimes.
Here are some ea words: steak, break, great, unbreakable
Using the ea Phonogram
The ea phonogram is very shy. It doesn't make the "A" sound
very often, but every now and then you will hear it make the
"A" sound.
The ea phonogram is picky. When it does make the "A" sound, it
likes to be in the middle of the word.
When ea makes its other sounds, it is not picky. We will cover
the other sounds of the ea phonogram in another lesson.
