Time Management to Write
Organizing you time is simple with a few good ideas. Make
sure to have an allotment of time set aside for writing
everyday. Writing everyday is important and non-negotiable to
make a living as a writer. Some suggestions of time management
for busy moms is to keep a notebook with you at all times for
those small 15 min breaks when waiting on the kids to come out
of school or for preschoolers when they are at the playground.
Jot down notes of ideas or rewrite a scene. During naps set time
aside to write, let the house work go till later. Have kids that
don't nap, give them quite time with a craft they can do
themselves, a special TV show they like, or a short film. This
can allow 1-2 hours a day to write.
Use a slow cooker to cook dinner. While the kids are doing
homework and mom is needed close at hand for questions, write.
Always have a load of laundry going so it takes small amounts of
time instead of all day. Pick up the house before the kids get
up in the morning to leave those other times for writing or
better yet use the hour before they get up to write if chores
can be managed some other time.
Other Ideas for Time Management
Allow a parent or other relative to take the kids for 1 or 2
hours a week for one-on-one time so you can write.
Something will always have to give, no one is perfect and
capable of doing everything required in a day, do not allow
writing to be the thing that is pushed aside. Make writing a
priority and time management will make it happen.
So the house is a little dirty and the dishes are in the sink.
Writing will give a feel of accomplishment and cause happiness
which will reflect onto the rest of the family and no one will
care that the house needs to be vacuumed.
Exercise
Right now while reading this, sit down and make a list of
everything that is done during the day, the times they are done,
and how long each one takes. Now see where time can be set aside
and tightened up to spend more time for writing.
